Set Your Own Price (SYOP) is a helpful feature in all our publishing packages. It lets you, the author, control the retail price of your book.
The price you set under the SYOP model depends on three main factors. First, the final page count affects the price. Longer books usually cost more to produce. Second, the type of printing—Black & White or Full Colour—also matters. Full Colour books generally have a higher price because they cost more to print. Finally, the format of your book—either paperback or hardcover—affects the price. Hardcovers often cost more due to their durability and looks.
You can set different retail prices for hardcover and paperback versions of your book. This allows you to choose a price for each format based on your target audience and sales goals.

Bookstore Return Program
The practice of returning unsold print books is a standard in the publishing industry. Physical bookstores have managed their financial risk by relying on publishers to credit them for returned books.
Booksellers often hesitate to order and stock titles that are not "returnable." If your marketing plan includes getting your book on bookstore shelves, ensuring that it is returnable is crucial for securing shelf space and the opportunity for in-store signings.
Registrations
Library of Congress Number
The Library of Congress assigns unique identification numbers to help manage and track submissions for its esteemed permanent collection, which houses a vast array of literary works. As part of our service, we will prepare and submit a copy of your book to the Library of Congress and help you obtain an official catalogue number.
It is essential to bear in mind that the Library of Congress reserves the right to decline cataloguing specific titles. For instance, they do not provide catalogue numbers for books that are fewer than 50 pages in length unless those books are categorised as children's literature. Moreover, they do not catalogue materials that are considered transitory or consumable, which includes items such as colouring books, comic books, or those with cut-out features. Consequently, any books that fall into these exceptions will not receive a catalogue number from the Library of Congress.
Copyright Registration
Registering your work with the U.S. Copyright Office provides peace of mind and establishes a public record of your ownership of the material. With the U.S. Copyright Registration service, Quill and Vellum will handle the necessary paperwork and submit it to the U.S. Copyright Office along with a copy of your book. Once the registration is complete, you will receive an official certificate that verifies your book's coverage under U.S. copyright regulations.
It typically takes 6 to 12 months for the author to receive the Certificate of Registration from the Copyright Office. Quill and Vellum will receive digital notification when the certificate is sent.
